There’s no other Seahawks player in team history where you can simply refer to him by his first name and middle initial and everyone knows exactly the guy you’re talking about. And there has been no other Seahawks player like John L. Williams to line up in the backfield who had the ability to block, run and catch passes like he did.
When John L. left the team after the 1993 season, only one running back had more yards in team history and only two wide receivers had more receiving yards. To this day he’s fifth and sixth on those respective lists to put him among the top 5 Seahawks with the most yards from scrimmage.
In 1988, John L. had a huge play to help lead the Seahawks to their first AFC West title in team history. It was a play very similar to one he had in the previous season to help lead the team to the playoffs in 1987. He helped lead guys like Curt Warner and Chris Warren to 1,000-yard seasons. Yet, he’s a guy who is not in the Seahawks Ring of Honor. Maybe it’s time for that to change.
